Head Girl Application tips

To the Director of Sixth Form,

Historically the role of prefect, originating in the 18th century public school system, was a means to maintain discipline whilst also instilling responsibility in elder students by giving them privileges. By the late 19th century, the prefect system was firmly established in most major public schools. Prefects were given privileges like their own living quarters and the authority to enforce school rules and dole out punishments. The prefect concept influenced similar student leadership systems in British colonies/former colonies like India, Singapore, Australia, and Canada. However, at Ark Academy the role of prefect is so much more. It comes with immense honour and responsibility and can only be achieved with an immaculate reputation. It also as a role embodies many of the school’s core values alongside my own; leadership collaboration, toleration, persistence excellence participation and, of course, civitas.

As prefects we have a distinct responsibility to help nurture the sixth form to make it thrive for us and for generations to come through the art of collaboration and colleagueship. It is also exceptionally important to find ourselves helping cultivate the next generation of Ark Academy Students and making school a better place to be something which I hope to continue to do in the future. I am of course especially interested in nurturing Ark’s Athletes as sports specifically women in sports are something I hold very close to my heart. I have helped set up the first Ark sixth form womans football team, something I am immensely proud of being a part of. I have also been a part of school council for the past two years revolutionising the school's uniform and making it ever more affordable for this year's year 7s and ensuring that the material was eco-friendly as now around half a recycled water bottle goes into making each and every new polyester blazer. The skirts are now available to buy anywhere increasing the equality at this school. I am part of the North London citizens campaign to ensure more business’ start to pay the London living wage to their workers (specifically Doc. Martens this year). I have been awarded the coveted civitas badge and carry it to this day. I have been student librarian for many years and have helped increase the confidence in the reading of my civitas hour tutee as she had lost confidence in her reading due to a small deficit in punctuation knowledge increasing her reading age by a year. Public speaking comes naturally to me and is something I have shown my love for throughout my time at Ark especially through winning the Jack Petchey Speak Out challenge for the school round. It is also something which I am sure I have shown through my role as host of the infamous Ark’s got talent. I also have experience in the role having been the head girl of my primary school and youngest winner of the times table challenge in my school’s history showing my resilience. The cause which I feel most strongly about in our community is discrimination, we live in a society where discrimination is normalised and ruining the sense of community that should naturally occur, we live in a society where even marginal groups will discriminate and oppress each other to ensure the come out strongest and this disgusts me. Even within different Muslim groups discrimination is rife with many Sunni and Shia Muslims discriminating against each other day in day out ruining the image of an Islamic community. Additionally, the use of homophobia under the guise of ‘Islam’ shows deep ignorance in the meaning of being a Muslim and results in a plethora of negative stereotypes against Muslims as a result. Lastly, a piece of advice for every Ark student and something I truly stand for is the fact that we will never have this opportunity again as well as my favourite quote of all time from Enid Blyton “you will get a lot out of your time at Malory towers make sure you give a lot back” but with regards to Ark Academy of course. I hope you take this into consideration.

This was my application for prefect but I didnt get past the interview stage as I was told I spoke too fast
