Merit in the AEA

I took the GCE Edexcel AEA maths exam yesterday in year 12 and I have a feeling that I will not be able to get a distinction. If I get a merit in the AEA, will it still be beneficial for my application to top unis?

I currently have 4A* predicted and I'm thinking of applying to Cambridge, Imperial, Warwick, Bath and Sheffield to study Mathematics.

My sixth form college told us that everyone from our college who's gotten a merit and applied to Cambridge maths got an offer. Those words are exactly what my head of maths said to a room full of us. This might be dependent on what college you're gonna apply to though , however getting a merit in AEA in year 12 definitely won't ' disadvantage ' you from what i know

I did it yesterday as well as a year 12 and I think a merit could be beneficial. I'm fairly sure Bath give out reduced offers for merits. As for Cambridge, Imperial and Warwick I think it still would look impressive but interview would still be the most important thing for Cambridge and I guess TMUA for Imperial and Warwick but I'm not too sure how they will weight it this year. Out of interest what score do you think you got?

Do you know how many people that was true for? Tbh I doubt they would give out offers based just on AEA merits.

not sure what i got but i think I generally did ok and could also get a distinction if the grade boundaries are low enough. I guess i just need to prep for the STEP for Cambridge.

No I have no idea , the sample size would be reasonably large though because roughly 20 people a year get in to oxbridge, I'm not suggesting that an offer is given out on that basis, rather that a merit won't hurt your chances.
