What predicted grades do I need to get into Oxford?

Hello,

I’m currently a Year 12 student going into Year 13 and have just received my end of year report I’ve been projected A in English Lit, B in Maths, and C+ in Chemistry. Am I cooked for applying to Oxford Maths? I plan to work super super hard from here and am already studying for the MAT, as well as self learning Further Maths (I had a different career planned out at beginning of year 12, and it was too late by the time I found my passion for maths).

Also if anyone has any tips on how to prepare for things like the MAT or interviews, please let me know!

The entry requirement for maths at Oxford is A*A*A. Unfortunately ABC is not getting you anywhere, if you can get these increased by October then you may be okay but as your A is not currently in maths itself you might be best looking at some other unis

A prediction of B does not fit with 'a passion for Maths'. What grade have you been working at during the year?

I would say forget Oxford and look elsewhere.

Work hard during the summer and before your next round of mocks and talk to teachers about predicted grades to get them where you need to be. If you can do that, I’d say it is worth trying in sha Allah

I know, it’s not looking good brev😭😭 stats and mechanics has been my downfall throughout the year, it always brings my grades down no matter how hard I revise. I don’t really know what else to say other than that I work hard and also that I’ve been very bogged down with homework and other non-academic related issues not an excuse obviously, but still.
I have an equal passion for English, which I’ve been debating doing since I was in year 8 would you say it’s worth switching degree decisions? Sorry for all these questions, don’t feel obliged to answer them.
Thanks for your reply nonetheless!

Awesome, keep it up! Be sure to be open with your teachers about your progress. Now is still an okay time to think about degree decisions and switch between ideas. Try getting your personal statement ideas down now, not too late 🙂 And 20% extra cirricular, 80% related to your subject but outside of your course, should be the ratios for your PS to apply to oxford.

Hi, prep is going okay! I’ve covered quite a few topics I’ve been weak on. Would you mind recommending some websites please? Sorry this is so late, totally didn’t see your response!

My tips for mechanics include - draw a large diagram and add all the forces clearly. Some students add lengths in a different colour.

Explain what you are doing e.g. taking moments about A

In other words you could "annotate?" in black pen writing of the diagram you draw of the forces? 😧

Look at the entry requirements for the course you want to do and they’re what you need your predicted grades to be
