Sports and Excercise science as an EU student

Hi,I'm a year 12 student from Italy and I'd like to study either Sports Science or Physiotherapy in the UK. (still undecided between the two) Because of the extremely high fees for international students I've had to narrow down my research and I wanted to ask you you opinion about the following unis (though some of these only have sports science not physio)University of PortsmounthUniversity of BournemouthUniversity of EssexOxford BrookesNottingham TrentBrightonNr 1 for sports I've seen is Loughborough, and though my predicted marks could be high enough I'm afraid the fees are not feasible. Any opinions on these universities or others that you think may be worth looking into with reasonable international fees would be great help! Thanks

Hi!
Thanks so much for the infos! I will look into them. Can you tell me anything about the ones I've found for Sports science? I've looked at rankings etc etc and I know they're not top universities but they don't seem bad for Sports Science. I am soon coming to the UK to visit some of them.... But any further opinions on the unis and locations would be great

Hi Saraeli,

My name is Will, I'm a BA Media Production Student at Bournemouth University.
Great to hear you are looking at BU for a degree.

Bournemouth as a town is a great place to study! we are right on the south coast of England with a very expansive beach which you can walk on for miles! We are also right on the border of the New Forest so you have a mix of the coastal, the countryside and the urban so you can do whatever you want in your free time.
I am not as knowledgable on the Sports Science and Physiotherapy courses, but we do have a couple of videos which you might find helpful:

Sports Degrees at BU - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b8aLuiYhMvY
Bournemouth Gateway Building Facilities Tour - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jIfjXQ7NNDw
BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zN_sPdEMCxA

We also have a Unibuddy service so you can talk to current students on the courses to get a more first-person account:
Anna, BSc Sports and Exercise Science - Chat to me

I hope this helps

Hi saraeli,

It’s great that you’re looking into both Sports Science and Physiotherapy! Choosing which course to study can be tough, especially with international fees to consider, so it’s fantastic that you’re making your decision so thoughtfully.

All the universities you’ve mentioned have strong programmes. Let me give you a bit more information about Oxford Brookes University, along with some thoughts on the others.

At Oxford Brookes, we offer a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science, which is highly respected and endorsed by the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES). If you’re passionate about understanding how the body responds to physical activity and want to work with athletes or tackle wider health issues, this course is ideal. You’ll cover subjects like biomechanics, physiology, and psychology, with options to explore areas like nutrition, strength and conditioning, and performance analysis. With access to specialist labs and expert staff, many of which have experience working with elite sports teams, you’ll get plenty of hands-on experience.

Brookes also offers a well-regarded BSc in Physiotherapy, which focuses on both the physical and psychological aspects of health and wellbeing. You’ll gain up to 1,000 hours of practice-based learning in NHS hospitals, research labs, community settings, and even sports clubs. We also incorporate simulation training to ensure you’re prepared for real-life scenarios, and our employability rate is normally over 90%, so you’ll have lots of opportunities when you graduate.

Like other UK universities, international fees at Brookes can be high. However, we offer a variety of scholarships and financial support, so it’s worth exploring those to help manage the costs. It’s also good to check if any of the universities on your list offer sports scholarships or bursaries that could support you further.

Oxford Brookes has a thriving, diverse student community, and we pride ourselves on providing a supportive environment for international students. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals and settle in quickly.

I hope that this helps! Please let us know below if you have any questions about Brookes or university life in general.

Good luck with your decision ☺️
