Clearing enquiries

So I’ve made a late application through UCAS but the main Uni I would like to go into has stopped receiving applications through UCAS, I think they will be available for clearing. Can anyone advise me on what I should do? I’m quite confident I’ll get into some of the unis I applied through UCAS because I already have my results as I took a gap year but I really want to gain admission into the Uni (Manchester Met) that isn’t receiving applications anymore. Should I be ready to call them up once clearing opens and will that mean if I do get any offers from the Unis I applied to, does that mean I’ll have to drop them?

There is no guarantee your course will be on clearing. You can try calling them on results day to see if they have a place available, although as I said, not guaranteed and you technically need to reject any offers you're holding to get into clearing. In recent years, some (but not all) universities have been unofficially considering applicants who haven't formally entered clearing yet, but Manchester Met may want you to go into clearing anyway before considering you.
If they’re closed to apps now, that might suggest they won’t be in clearing as they’re comfortable with the number of offers they’ve made.

That said, if you have results in hand you can always give them a call on July 5th and see if they’re open in early clearing. Just bear in mind that they may not have dropped their entry requirements at that point.

Sigh, thank you very much for your reply!! So I’m guessing I’ll just have to forget about en tree ring Manchester Met cause it’s too risky dropping my 5 choices for a clearing decision I’m not even sure will be up for clearing

Okay- if they’re open for early clearing, will I have to drop my 5 uni choices to proceed with the clearing or drop them before I ring up the university?

You can call them and see what’s available, but they almost certainly won’t give you a clearing offer whilst you’re not eligible for it.

Sorry but what do you mean by “eligible for it”?

If a university is not accepting applications now it almost certainly wont be in clearing. It clearly believes it will met its numbers for the course without the need for clearing. Your choice will be a gap year or another university.

Not placed at a uni or awaiting a decision from an application. If neither are true then you can receive clearing offers. Otherwise, unis might have a general chat with you but you can't receive an offer.

Hi @SosalD

Clearing opens tomorrow. Details on the process and a list of what courses are available can be found at: www.mmu.ac.uk/clearing/

You can call us on 0161 247 3000 to make further enquiries - our lines are open Monday-Friday, from 9am - 4pm.

When you call, you will need:

Your personal details including telephone number and email address

Your UCAS ID number (if you have one)

Your results - please check that you meet or exceed the minimum entry requirements that are detailed within the course pages at www.mmu.ac.uk/study/undergraduate/

Your call will be answered by one of our Clearing operators who will ask you about the course you are interested in and will advise if places are available or not. If you meet the minimum entry requirements, your details will be reviewed by faculty admissions staff for a decision.

Please note that you must have all of your results available when you call. If you do not have your results, please contact us when you have received them.

If your application is successful then you will receive a provisional offer via email. Only after receiving this email can you make a formal UCAS Clearing application. This means that, until you receive a provisional offer from us, you can keep your current UCAS offers and don't have to withdraw your places. This offers you some security in case your application to Man Met is unsuccessful for whatever reason or if the course isn't available in Clearing.

I hope you find this helpful - the bottom line is that you can call us at any point from tomorrow and we can offer guidance over the phone if there's anything you don't understand🙂

Chloe
