no
Hey there,

Absolutely not, we don't judge you and no one else will. In fact, no one will know if you've got into university through clearing unless you tell them. There's nothing to be ashamed of or scared about, as clearing exists to help everyone get into uni. There's loads of reasons why someone might not get the results they need, so you won't be the only one.

If you're scared about ringing the hotline, some unis (like us at Teesside) offer a self apply form, which you can find on the website when Clearing opens. We also have an online chat you can use too. If you do choose to give us a call, our staff are extremely friendly too.

What course are you looking at studying?

Mike 🙂

i’m clearing! literally no one cares- i get your hesitation, but if anything it’s a brag! your last choice was others first! also, if you care that much, then just don’t tell people!

Hi there,
There's definitely nothing to be ashamed of. Many of my friends got into university through clearing for a range of reasons, from not getting their grades to just having a change of heart about their chosen university. The best thing to do is to be prepared on the day. The Student Room have some incredible clearing resources and you can also read our own here.

Your firm or insurance might still accept you below offer anyway.

Once you are at uni no one is going to care how you got there. I don't think I ever asked about anyones grades. not relevant or of interest to me.

Just remember that many Unis may still be able to accept applicants who just miss their offers.
So, even if you dont get exactly the grades you want, you may still have a place.
Try not to worry.

Hey there!
Coventry University student ambassador here!

I came in through clearing on my course due to a sudden change of mind I've had, two months before uni started!
This is absolutely just like applying to university as everyone else in the first intake period. It makes absolutely no difference. There is no stigma around clearing students, and in fact the highest achieving student from the cohort before mine was a clearing student, that now has a great graduate job.
However, I can understand how this can be a stressful situation to be in, as I've also doubted myself when applying through clearing, and realized later that no one cares, and no one even asks when you applied or not. Furthermore, there wasn't even any stigma around people who did foundation year!

Hope my experience helps you overcome this anxiety!

Kind Regards,
Bianca (BSc Aviation Management)
Check out Professor Amy Brown, a stand out in her field - she arrived at her university through clearing and often talks about that experience. Feels she landed on her feet... certainly looks like it!

Hi 👋

Going into clearing is nothing to be ashamed of at all. 🙂

It can be a positive thing as it can create different opportunities you didn't have access to previously.

People at university don't judge you because of this, as everyone has had different journeys to university and each journey should be respected equally.

Universities can support you in many different ways through clearing if you have any particular questions or queries surrounding clearing please give the university a call on their clearing hotline number.

Does anyone else have any advice to share on this, to support others thinking of going through clearing?

Hope this helps,

Hi there!

It's completely normal to feel nervous about getting your results back, and university applications, but no one will judge you for how you get into university! Everyone's journey to university is different, and people go through clearing for all sorts of reasons.

If you know what universities and subjects you would like to apply to through clearing, it might help to look at their clearing pages, and see what their clearing process is like!

I hope this helps! Feel free to reply with any more questions!

Eh? The conditions for an offer being changed on results day? That doesn't sound like a thing.

A few people have mentioned change of minds, or being accepted as a near miss. I didn’t spot anyone talking about conditions changing?

It's honestly not a problem. Some people go into clearing just because they suddenly changed their mind about what uni they want to go to at the last minute. I know someone who's firm choice upped the entry requirements on results day meaning they had to go into clearing. Some people go into clearing because they decide they actually want to go to uni this year not next year, but missed the window to apply.
No one will judge you, don't feel ashamed! Anyone I know who's gone through clearing ended up loving their uni 🙂

This post.
Students waiting for results day have enough stress without thinking this is a possibility.

Hey there 😀

First of all, I want to say that it is completely normal to feel scared and stressed about going through Clearing, but there is really no need to be. You are definitely not alone - many students find themselves in the same situation each year, and it is just another pathway to get to where you want to be.

At university, people come from all sorts of backgrounds and have different experiences getting there. Most students and faculty understand that the journey to university can be unpredictable, and there is no shame in finding your way through Clearing. In fact, many students end up in their dream courses and have fantastic university experiences even if they did not get there through their initial firm or insurance choices.

The important thing is that you are determined to continue your education and pursue your goals. That is what really matters. If you are worried about judgment, try to remember that university is a fresh start and the information about how you get in stays confidential. People are generally focused on their own experiences and challenges, and they are likely to be supportive rather than judgmental.

I hope it was helpful 💪 Feel free to reach out if you have any questions 😉 You can also chat with me or other students directly through The Ambassador Platform.

Take care,
