Second degree - computer science

Hi, I'm a mature student that already holds a degree (not related at all btw), lately I've been passionate in ai research and programming, therefore, I'm considering doing a second degree in computer science and then a master on ai, however funding is the problem, I did read that part time STEM degrees are exception courses, can someone confirm if this course is one of them, computer science- London metropolitan university- part time (4 years) (fyi I did get a, b, b on a levels, but I'm interested on this one as it offers a 4 year course) thanks

Hi there. Typically, if you already hold a degree at an equivalent or higher level than you are looking to study, you would not be eligible for further funding from SFE.

However, there are certain courses that are an exception to this rule. There are different exception courses for part time and full time.

You can check the list of courses that may be eligible for funding here: https://www.heinfo.slc.co.uk/resources/guidance/courses-management-service-user-guide/eligibility/equivalent-or-lower-qualification-elq-exceptions/?alttemplate=printchapter&id=1454

This course you have listed is classed as a part time exception course, so you would be eligible to receive further funding for this. Thanks, Leah.

Hi Cal, yes, we'd assess you for both of these if you're studying an exception course at part time level. Any further questions then please do let us know. Thanks, Jason

Hi there,

This should be Tuition Fee Loan and Maintenance Loan as long as the course isn't distance learning.

Thanks,
Claire
