Forensic Science or Biomedical Degree.

Hi everyone,

Basically I’m wondering what bachelor degree to do at uni. I’m currently at the end of Year 12 and ready to go in year 13 at a sixth form college. The subjects I’m doing are: Biology, Statistics & BTEC Forensic Science. Forensic Science is by far my favourite subject and it is fun and very different everyday. I would love to do it at university. However, I don’t think it is a highly degree or anything and that puts me off.

My other option is Biomedical. I don’t want pure biology as I hate the plant stuff. Biomedical sounds decent and my option if forensics didn’t work out was somewhere in the health field. The problem is for biomedical I get very bored easily and I can imagine it was will mega boring. Forensics however I know will be very fun and rewarding.

My other option is getting a degree apprenticeship into forensic science and not going to university. I like the money aspect of this but I really want to say that I’ve been to university and get the experience.

What does everyone here suggest and are there any other degrees you could suggest? (Pls nothing chemistry related).

What do you want to do as a career? Forensic labs are private sector since the FSS closed but they specifically did not accept forensic science degrees.

A degree apprenticeship is going to university. It's the same degree as a full time student. But it gets you work experience which is almost more important.

Again I’m not sure what I want to do but something like biomedical or forensics.

Hi,

I think the best way to answer this question, would be based on what your plans in the future is.
I'd suggest if you'd like to be CSI or work in a Forensic related job.
Go do a Forensic Science degree.

It has been shown that doing a degree you actually like helps with getting a good overall grade. From what I can gather, you enjoyed learning new things. I may be bias in saying that Forensic Science is a better suited degree for you. As once you have completed the degree, most people go straight into work.
Forensic Sciences | London South Bank University (lsbu.ac.uk)

Something I think you might enjoy is the range of teaching and assessment that we have:

Crime Scene investigation

Witness Statements

Expert Witness

Live lab

GER (General Examination Reports)

SFR (Streamline Forensic Report)

These are just a few that I have named. For the most part people feel very prepared to go out into the forensic life as we have already been trained on how to complete task, because we had to do it for our degree.

I do also want to mention that which everyone you pick you'll have to do a little chemistry in the degree.

Please let me know if you have any questions,

Best Wishes
