a level further maths without level 2 (Gcse) further maths

i didnt do level 2 further maths, but i am planning on taking a level further maths. I am predicted a 9 in gcse maths and believe I got that in my gcse exams, will i struggle with a level further maths since i havent covered the gcse further maths content and should i learn gcse further maths during this summer?

Thousands of students take A-Level further maths without having taken the Level 2 and have no trouble comprehending the material.

yes you will struggle, but not because you didnt do the gcse fm course, but because it is just a very difficult course. the gcse fm course is honestly trivial and doesn't benefit you much. if you're predicted a grade 9 that shows you have a good handle on maths and so will definitely be able to tackle A level FM, but it wont be easy!!

Further maths is obviously hard but what you have is great, you got what you need, ma sha Allah. You don’t need to worry, just take the A-Level if you want. The gcse course is not necessary, I didn’t do it and I still did further maths A-Level. Waiting for my results.

Many schools don’t offer gcse further maths because it’s a tiny course and everything is taught again from scratch

no definitely not
a level further maths has nothing to do with gcse further maths
if you really want to learn content during the summer start learning a-level content, thats basc gcse further maths
or use gcse further maths as a springboard to start learning a-level content

GCSE FM is helpful, not a prerequisite. Some content such as basics of calculus and matrices are covered in GCSE FM, which overlaps with the A-level. The advantage of this is that you are exposed to certain concepts earlier, like differentiation or matrix multiplication, which can make your life a little bit easier as you wouldn't have to spend time trying to fundamentally understanding the concepts first. However, if you make sure you consolidate your knowledge regularly, you should be fine.

If you are concerned that you might be disadvantaged by not having learned GCSE FM content, I suggest binge watching this playlist on 2x speed once or twice so that you grasp the fundamentals of what you have 'missed'. Should only take a few hours and will get you up to speed on what you may have missed out on pretty quickly as long as you pay attention.
