Dentistry or Economics

I currently have an offer from UCL for econ but was thinking was thinking about doing dentistry but that would mean I have to take a gap year and what if I don’t get in that year then I would’ve missed the UCL offer. Ik getting a job is harder for economics but 5 years is also quite a long time which salary would be better or what degree is better

well. before you start thinking about salary maybe have a deeper thought into what you want to actually do. because average salaries in economics aren't going to be very helpful to you if you can't convince a job interviewer you want the job

dentistry is a tough degree, not just because its 5y, and as with medicine, if your heart isn't in it it's probably not wise to press ahead with a gap year. i definitely wonder about your motives here, although i appreciate its difficult to find your calling in life whilst still in sixth form

economics is a mainstream employable degree, good for plenty of professions. but then so are most degrees. ucl is a great school, target/semi-target for finance, so that gives you something of a leg up in the jobs world

idk cos I do enjoy biology a bit more but after attending insight days/we I also did enjoy finance but with econ I’m just worried about finding a job afterwards cos it’s so competitive but idk cos I hopefully would do internships etc, but with dentistry ur guaranteed a job but if I take a gap year and I don’t get in I would have to take another one which I rlly don’t want to do

I was thinking if I do end up applying can I put my 5th choice as ucl econ and can I just send them a separate personal statement I wrote this time again or does my 5th choice have to be biology related cos my personal statement would be on dentistry ?

you can only submit one personal statement and i doubt ucl economics would give you an offer with a personal statement geared towards dentistry

again i think you need to think more deeply about what you want to do. doing dentistry for a job is silly; avoiding economics because it has a competitive job market is also silly
