Ineligible for doctoral loan

Hi, I have just been accepted for PhD study. As a filler last year I started a BSc in Psychology which I got student finance for. I’m planning on withdrawing from this to start the PhD. I genuinely didn’t think I’d be accepted for doctorate study and fully intended to carry on with the BSc- it would be my second undergraduate degree. I’ve just applied for my doctorate loan and it says I’m ineligible. Is this because I haven’t withdrawn from the BSc? I have got a PhD so can’t understand why? Obviously I’ll have to pay back what I’ve had last year for the Psychology. Does anyone know if they will let me do that in installments? Can someone help please? T says I’ll get a letter off student finance wales explaining why I’m ineligible but that will be in a week to 10 days and I’m panicking a bit as without funding I won’t be able to take the PhD forward. Thanks

Hi @SUEg005 ,

Congratulations on the offer to study PhD.

Unfortunately, I can't answer your question but I would highly suggest getting in touch with the university that offered you the PhD, the university that you are currently studying at as well as student finance. I imagine these are the people who know your case best so can offer the best advice.

Calling works best but you may need to wait till Monday. In the meantime, ensure you have all your details at the ready for when you do call them including IDs of any kind.

Good luck and I hope it works out.
