Anyone else notice the rise of employers asking for legal names on applications?

Makes it impossible for me to ignore unconscious bias.

I assume employers want legal names as the next step to recruitment often involves supplying photo and proof of address ID.

The next stage can involve vetting/screening, including criminal history, financial and right to work checks.

These have to be done under current and previously used names.

What is the source for the statistics that show 'the rise of employers asking for legal names on applications'?

I worked as a Recruitmenter for the RAF; a full legal name had to be entered on applications and would be checked against other ID; no bias, just making sure they are who they say they are and, as above, can pass all the required checks.
