NHS funding in wales

How do you apply for NHS funding in Wales?! My course is adult nursing and it states that I can get funding from the NHS but I have not got the slightest idea on how to apply for Wales, it is the one where you have to commit to working in Wales for 2 years after graduating but everything I have tried is only for England?!

Have you looked at this webpage? It might provide you with some helpful information on applying. I believe it is the one where you have to commit in advance to working in Wales for 2 years post-completion 🙂

I'm in the same position looking to make an application for Cardiff Met's Healthcare Science degree.

If you register and begin an application, at the estimation stage after selecting the course the year starting 2025 isn't available in the dropdown list for my course. I presume that they have not opened applications yet (it is pretty early) and will updated the form to allow applications later one.

It might be worth getting in contact with them to ask if they have a date yet for when applications open for your course. Good luck.

I'm having exactly the same problem for the SALT course starting in September. I can't get past the 'Estimation Stage' as it's not showing the 2025 - 2028 cohort. Also, although I'm currently living in England, I'll be moving to live in Wales for my degree. I can apply for a Maintenance Loan through Student Finance England, but it looks like I might be eligible to apply through Student Finance Wales (as I've been a UK resident for more than 3 years and will be living in Wales on the first day of the academic year). If I apply through SFE I'll only be eligible for a reduced Maintenance Loan (because my tuition fees are covered by the NHS Wales Bursary scheme), but I'm not sure if this would also be the case if applying through SF Wales or if they have different criteria. If anyone can shed any light I'd be very grateful! It's all quite confusing atm, but sure it'll become clearer as time goes on.

If you live in England you will have to apply to SFE not SFW for you finance. It doesn't usually make financial sense for an English student to study a healthcare course in Wales due to the reduced maintenance loan. More details here:

Just an update regarding applications for the bursary opening for September 2025 entry to Cardiff Met's Healthcare Science degree.

I emailed SAS for an update as I'd previously been told by the uni and them that applications should be open by now. They're expecting them to go live within the next couple of weeks.

Just a quick tip, when I completed the estimation stage it came back with a £0 bursary component (plus fees and stipend) which was a bit of a shock. It wasn't until someone at SAS began taking a look at my application that the bursary component updated to an actual amount.

The Student Award Service, the part of NHS Wales which handled bursaries. Hopefully you wont have to wait much longer.
