TL;DR at end.
I was just wondering what students at further education colleges do if they they need accommodation? I'm currently in a house but want to move out.
I know most college students probably stay with their parents but some are estranged from parents.
I'm older than most college students but considering a college course to reskill and so I can get a recent academic reference, but I'm on social security because of disabilities.
When I went to college in the past, most people were on social security - usually Jobseeker's Allowance but I managed to get Income Support which stopped the Jobcentre harassing me while I was trying to do something with my life. However, they generally lived either with parents or in supported accommodation.
But I remember once, as a university student, living in a shared house where the other people were college students and I'm sure they were on social security.
So how do they get somewhere to live? Are landlords of student properties more likely to accept a benefits-claimant if they are also a college student, even though it doesn't give them any extra money? Can they go into (private) student accommodation halls?
BTW please don't mention benefits discrimination - the court cases previously in the news mean absolutely nothing when a) someone can't afford to take a landlord to court and b) taking a landlord to court isn't going to put you in their good books.
Thanks.
TL;DR: I'm on social security (misleadingly called benefits these days) for disability reasons, can I go into private student halls or a private student shared house if only doing a (full time) college course?
