Why do my friends often tell me not to envy others?

As inspiring as it sounds, I find it very difficult not envying others for all the social life, relationships, career success they have when my life is in a total mess devoid of the said things...what do you think?

Honestly im the same you just get used to the idea that your life will get better soon
Envy is a pointless emotion. Sometimes you only see the surface and don't know what other people have going on in their lives. Who are these 'others, people you actually know?

For a start, be grateful for your friends; people may be envious of you for having them. Look at what you can change in your life, not to have the same as others, but what will make you happy.
I think you should listen to your friends.

Only if it is true.

It tends to be a negative and destructive emotion. Better to turn it around to trying to get on in some way

I understand. That is why I have been trying my best to stop thinking in such way.

Envy happens when you focus too hard on what other people have and not what you have. You should focus on you and what you want to achieve. If we spent all our time pining for what others have then we're not living our lives, we're living vicariously through theirs.

I know how hard it is to envy others. People say not too and I try not too until something happens and I think "why cant that be me". Someone will always hit you with the "someone probably envies you" or "be grateful"- and I get why people say that but it just doesn't help. I wish envy just didn't exist. It ruins peoples happiness and confidence.

Nothing will change. You can be envious of others but that won't really change much. It just causes negative emotions. You don't get much out of it. Try to focus on the things you do have and make the most out of what you have.

I get that. You are right. It is hard to make changes.
