GCSE revision

How many hours do you recommend revising for in the summer holidays?? I’m also going on holiday will this reduce the amount of time I get to revise for!?
Hi there 👋

When are your exams, and how many GCSEs are you revising for?

I would recommend developing a plan, factoring in how many GCSEs you’re studying for and the dates. I would recommend doing a few hours a week, focussing more specifically on the areas that you struggle with.

Don’t worry about going on holiday - it’s so important for you to have a break and unwind. Taking time for yourself and doing things that you enjoy will help to reduce your stress and improve your wellbeing.

I am taking my exams next year but have two sets of mocks coming up one around December/ November time and one near march. I have just finished my year 10 current mocks got some of them back achieved around 80% + however the grade boundaries are not worked out yet. But most of the papers that i sat were only have the content or a mix of papers with only the things we have learnt so i feel as though i have to learn it myself before September so that i am ready and reinforce the knowledge i have to keep earning these grades. I have already sat one GCSE the RE AQA and am waiting for them results slightly nervous now that i wont get a grade 9 because of the amount of people that found it so easy making me think the grade boundaries will be sky high. I will also be on holiday around about the time the results come out and am feeling guilty to go on holiday because of the amount of revision i have as well as if i don't get good my holiday will basically be ruined!! 😬

Firstly, congratulations on getting around 80%+ in your year 10 mocks, that is fantastic and you should be so proud of yourself! Did you develop a revision plan for these mocks that you could consider reusing for the mocks you have coming up?

Try not to worry too much about people finding the RE AQA exam ‘easy’, remember that the grade boundary won’t just be based on people in your school, and that a lot of people are also likely to have struggled with it. Also just because they found it ‘easy’ doesn’t mean that they’ve smashed the exam… some exams that I found easy whilst doing my GCSEs I received low grades in, and others that I found really difficult I got an A in - how easy or difficult you find the exam is pretty irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. As long as you were prepared for it and tried your best, I’m sure you’ll be absolutely fine.

Please do not feel guilty about going on holiday, you deserve a break! If you really feel like you should be learning new things to stay ahead and maintain your revision pattern, why not make some revision notes and take them with you on holiday? You could read them on the plane and whilst lying on the beach. If I was you, I’d use your holiday time to unwind and refresh, so that when you get back home you feel refreshed and ready to take on your revision and year 11, but if not revising makes you feel uncomfortable then there’s no harm in taking notes with you.

I hope you receive the grade that you want for RE, and best of luck with your future GCSEs
