Land economy at Cambridge

I am inspiring to have a career in investment banking and will be deciding my university courses this summer finishing y12, I have seen that Cambridge university are offering a Land Economy course that seems easier to get accepted in to compared to economics. Does anyone know what this course is about and whether it is a respected degree among the big banks?

Yes it is very respected as it is a Cambridge degree, plus in addition to Economics, it also covers Law and Environment, which have increasingly become hot topics in IB, with more and more regulations and laws to adhere to, and with sustainability becoming front and centre.

Please note though that Land Economy has become extremely competitive, even more so than Economics. As per the Cambridge website, in 2023, there were 8 applicants for every place in Economics, and 9 applicants for every place in Land Economy.

Don't play the numbers game. Apply for the one you prefer and the one you are better suited to. Economics is extremely mathematical and you need FM, whereas for Land Economy you need to be an all rounder, and be comfortable with maths, but also good at writing essays.

If you are only interesting in studying it because you want to go into investment banking and make a lot of money, Cambridge is probably not the place for you. They want people that actually care about their subject and Land Economy is actually quite competitive nowadays.

Land Economy is just as hard to get into as Economics, and it is just as good for breaking into IB. The choice between the two should therefore be based on what interests you the most and crucially where your skills lie. If you really like maths, you should probably go for Economics. If you are more of an allrounder and are just as comfortable at writing essays on Law, policy, environment etc as doing quantitively calculations, then Land Economy might suite you better.
