Going to uni in home city

If my parents live in the same city as my uni, but I live in accommodation, will I get the student finance for someone living away from home? Or will they assume I am living at home, and I will get less??? My mum said they might assume I'm at home and I'm worried because my top choice is in my home city.

Hi there,

If you are living away from home even if it is in the same city you should still be able to get student finance of living away from home as your term time address will be different to your home address. The university will also be able to confirm that you are living in student accommodation rather than at home as they will have the details of all their students who are living in student accommodation as you have to update your term time address with them each year. If you are worried about this I would defiantly ring up student finance and ask them as they will be able to explain all this to both you and your mum and give you information and answers to all your specific questions.

I hope this helps and good luck with your university journey 😊

Hi there,

If you selected living away from home (elsewhere), then you should be granted this. Normally later in the year we will ask for evidence to prove you're term time address to make sure what you told us is correct.

Thanks,
Claire
