Absence from classes

Hello, I will be attending NTU this september. Next year me and my partner have been planning a trip abroad however the only chance we have to go due to her work schedule is in march when I would have classes. If I were to inform a lecturer beforehand, do you think it would be likely to receive 11-12 days of absence without repercussions or would I risk losing my place on the course?

Hi,

It's great to hear that you'll be joining NTU this September!

Our attendance policy expects students to attend activities which form part of their course, such as lectures, training, tutorials, examinations and other activities (subject to absence for genuine medical reasons or other circumstances acceptable to the University).

We generally don't recommend taking a leave of absence, especially for a period like 11-12 days, without medical or other extenuating circumstances. Being absent for this amount of time could make it challenging to keep up with your studies. Missing this amount of time could also mean missing "formative assessments" (ongoing assessments) and potentially even "summative assessments" (final assessments), depending on the specific schedule of your course.

Hope that helps!

Best wishes,
