£113 Oak House (more social and cheaper) or £172 for the quieter ensuite accoms?

I know oak house is known well for being a social hub, but obv wouldn’t want it to be 24/7 noisy cos that would be an issue. Also obviously an ensuite is more ideal

Is oak house worth saving £50 pw or should I just go for the ensuite?

I don't think Oak house is worth it😕 You can still go to the oak house parties even if you are from a different accommodation or hall. The rooms are sooo freaking small and cramped. Plus, the continuous noise and parties are not worth spoiling your academic year. Get an accommodation which balances both social and academic life so at the end of the day you can enjoy both without sacrificing the other.

the ensuite to me would be worth it unless you can get ensuite at Oak House? I remember sharing 4 showers on a floor of 15. It was not fun

No en-suites at Oak house as far as I’m aware

I spent a couple of weeks in Oak House at the beginning of this year and ended up moving to a different halls about 3 wks in, if an ensuite is important to you then it would seriously be worth considering applying somewhere else! I struggled most with nipping to the bathroom at night while there were people I didn't know and parties going on in my kitchen across the hall. ngl didn't love having strangers seeing me in my pyjamas ahahah... However, I know loads of people who have made friends for life and really enjoyed their time in Oak for the social life! Im very biased bc I loved my first year halls but would 100% recommend Richmond. The rooms are much bigger and the ensuites are great. Big kitchens too for parties but also not a constant stream of noise and people. I found it to be the perfect balance really, and almost everyone in our block (64 people!) all got on and still chat to each other now
How social a hall is depends on the people who have moved in, not the building itself.

As a general rule I tend to advise people to avoid ensuites and save the money.
£60 a week to avoid sharing a toilet for a year seems extortionate in my opinion. Invariably you're going to be living in shared housing for a while and having to share a bathroom - may as well get used to it sooner rather than later.

To put it in context, over a typical 40 week contract, this is £2400 in your first year of uni. Just to avoid sharing a bathroom. Think of all the other things you could buy (or save for) with that money!

My general perspective is unless you have specific health reasons you cannot share a bathroom due to e.g. accessibility needs, or have some kind of formal religious proscription around sharing a bathroom (?) I agree as above that it's not worthwhile.

Sharing a bathroom isnt that bad as long as your flat ates all agree on keeping the hygiene up ive been to some oak house flats and the toilet is actually cleaner and more spacious than other ensuite rooms

other ensuite rooms in sheavyn and richmond were also more worn out and dirty looking?? compared to oak ones since they were renovated in 2021 i think. i also know friends where their flat in oak were as party as they thought, but it was mostly the sound of other flats or squirrels
