University of York - Clearing 2024

Hi everyone!

We've created this thread so you can ask us any questions you have about Clearing.

You can find lots of useful information on our website and also, sign up for email updates to find out more about York and get our latest vacancies.

So, how does Clearing work?
Each summer, universities advertise their courses that still have available places after International Baccalaureate (IB) results day and A Level results day. If, at this stage, you're not holding an offer from any UK university, you can apply for a place through Clearing.

If you've already received a place, but no longer want to accept it, you can still apply for Clearing by declining your offer(s).

When does Clearing open?
Clearing runs in two stages:

From 5 July 2024, after IB results day, certain courses will be available to apply for through Clearing for students who already have their results

On 15 August 2024, A level results day, all courses with spaces available will open for applications from 8am (BST).

Clearing closes when universities fill their remaining places. This is usually around September, though many courses fill up before then so if you’re thinking of applying, make sure you get in early!

Is Clearing for you?
There are various reasons to apply through Clearing. You might be looking to change your subject or career path, or maybe your results aren't what you expected. In either case, don't panic no matter your situation, Clearing can open up exciting opportunities!

Hi, where are courses shown on the University of York for early clearing so much lower than the conditional offer grades (e.g. BBC for psychology). Does this mean there will be clearing places available on 15th August or might they all have gone by then?

Hi there,

We won't know whether we will have clearing places in August until we have processed all the A level results, so we cannot advise on likely clearing entry requirements for courses at this stage. You can browse our clearing vacancies and apply through Early Clearing through this form. You may wish to check our Clearing entry requirements from Thursday 15 August onwards, and if you feel you meet our requirements at that point please do get back in touch via our Clearing Hotline on +44 (0)1904 234868.

I hope this helps - Hannah 🙂
Hi all,

Our Clearing hotline is now open!

Hotline opening times:
Thursday 15 August: 8am to 6pm BST
Friday 16 August: 8am to 5pm BST

We have limited Clearing places available, so search our vacancies and call now to apply +44 (0) 1904 234868.
When you call we’ll ask for your exam results, and your ten-digit UCAS ID, which you can find on UCAS Hub. We might need to call you back, so it’s useful to provide a number we can contact you on.

Please be aware that we can only make offers to students directly not via a parent or supporter. (You’ve got this!)

If you have any questions about Clearing, send us a message - we’re happy to help!

Best of luck!

Hi, I've accepted a clearing place and am waiting for accomodation link to open for me. When will that be? What is the situation with clearing accomodation at the moment? Is there anything you can advise me if I want to be on West Campus.

Hi!

It can take up to 48 hours for our accommodation system to update after receiving your York login details. You can then apply for accommodation: https://www.york.ac.uk/study/accommodation/undergraduate/clearing/

If you have any urgent questions about accommodation, please get in touch with our accommodation team via email ([email protected]) or telephone (+44 (0)1904 322165) 🙂

Are you actually in Clearing right now (not holding any offers or places)? I'd so you should see a big blue "Add a Clearing choice" button.

Is clearing still available for home students as it only says for international students, would they still accept me if I have the grades that I need for clearing. I’ve got accepted into my firm choice however I’ve decided that I want to be closer to home which is uni of York. I really want to apply yet it says it’s only FOR international students clearing should be open until October though it’s obviously understandable if the course is all filled up. How is this the case? Thank you very much

Hi,

We have separate targets for UK and International students. UK students make up about 75% of all students at York, and we consistently maintain an 85% or higher UK undergraduate intake.

Unfortunately we are now closed for home clearing applicants. We are open for Clearing for some areas for International students where we have limited places remaining.

I hope this makes sense 🙂
