Work Experience

I’ve got a work experience placement for a week at a law firm next week and i am soooo nervous. Are there usually like other students there because i’m worried it’ll just be me and a bunch of adults. also not sure on what to wear??

Depends on the size of the place, but they likely will have other students that you may not see

Hey! So assuming you are using a platform with your school to organise this work experience (such as unifrog), applications submitted by your law firm on that platform usually includes a dress code! If not, you can always drop a professional email to a teacher or the law firm to get a rough idea. As someone who also is doing work experience at a law firm, they asked for smart casual!! Speaking on the concerns regarding who will be there: companies usually have slots for work experience so there is a high chance that you are the only student there. That being said, there could be 1 or 2 other students but you guys may be split up!!

Hi there

Congratulations on securing your work experience placement. 🙂 Whilst law firms can be quite daunting to students, it can be a really valuable and enjoyable experience.

Whether there are other students depend where you secured the work experience from, if it was from a University promoted activity, chances are that there will be others from similar backgrounds to you. If not, do not worry either- I have done some volunteering and internships before in law firms. Although there were not any students, the staff were very welcoming and supportive- in the long term it will be an invaluable experience. 🙂

You could always email the organiser regarding the dress code. If not, wear something smart for the first day - if you find yourself overdressed for the occasion, just switch on your second day. It could give a better first impression and show that you are serious about the opportunity (in my opinion it may be better to look smarter than too casual for the occasion) 🙂.

Hope this helps, and hope you enjoy your work experience 🙂
