Physics at Leeds

My name is Tony Cottingham,I am a former Engineering Physicist in the defence industry, with a longstanding personal interest in problems of Science Education at secondary and tertiary Level . In 2011, a young man, who was the son of an old friend of mine,went to Leeds Uni to study Physics. Having known this student all his life, I did not expect him to get into the slightest difficulty. However, I heard in 2013 that he was having problems, and went to see him. I was shocked when my young friend told me that at Leeds , Physics students only receive small group tuition in the first year of the course. The last time I looked at the Leeds prospectus online, this policy hadn't changed. I am sure that the majority of physics graduates would agree with me that small group tuition is essential in all years of the course, and that this is something that prospective students should check for before enrolling on a course.
