Questions about Durham isc accoms

hi i’ll be heading to Durham isc in sep 2024
just wanted to ask a few questions abt the accommodation:

1. i was allocated to infinity house as Rialto court doesn’t have any rooms left, but the google reviews left me feeling unsettled
In your experience, was petty theft a common issue in the accommodation? like even the cleaners steal your stuff?

2. according to the room contract, staff members are required to inform you if they wish to enter your room for any reason 24h prior. was there ever any instance whereby your room was intruded into and you weren’t informed of it?
(like i mentioned, the reviews were concerning)

3. how was the security like at infinity house? i read that it’s the accommodation for under 18s so shouldn’t it be looked after 24/7?
International students will be away from their families and their safety should be of utmost importance (speaking for myself too)

4. how was the internet connection/wifi at infinity house? The google reviews mentioned that for a period of 2-4 weeks, students at infinity house had to shift to Rialto court just to use the WiFi because it wasn’t functioning as it should have at infinity house, and that entire circumstance was very inconvenient and unpleasant

5. Do the staff members actually listen to students’ concerns about anything regarding their accommodation? Or do they just brush aside their concerns? How fast do staff members respond if you have issues with your room facilities?

thank you lots and lots in advance )

Hiya,

I did the International foundation year at the ISC in 2021-2022 so I may be able to help 🙂 I remember when applying for accommodation reading the negative reviews about Rialto and Infinity and being put off. Although I ultimately decided to live in a private accommodation (Grosvenor House which I highly recommend) , I have many friends who stayed in both Rialto and Infinity and they said it was fine. From what I remember, they didn't have any issues. Both accommodations have onsite security/reception which is completely secure and the only way to enter the building is through individual key fobs so its incredibly secure. Staff are also available onsite in case you need assistance with anything. As for the Wifi, there was a bit of an issue with it in my year but from what I was told, it was quickly resolved and wasn't an issue in the proceeding years. As for staff coming in and stealing/coming in without permission, I wasn't aware of any issues with that in 2021-2022 but again I didn't stay in either so I'm not completely sure.

But, if you have more specific questions about accommodation at the ISC, you can speak to some of the ISC students who lived there directly on here.

Hope this helps!
