-what’s a typical student’s timetable like?
i only know that there’s 20 hours of f2f lessons a week

-are there group projects that are graded and add towards your final progression grades?
i need 80% and would hate to lose that over a group project if there’s any

-how do the teachers prep students for the lnat? it’s like a 1 hour session per week

-what texts do u use in english lit? like Shakespeare or what?

-sociology: what do students study tbvh

-do students go for internships during their IFY? how and usually where?

thanks in advance ☺️☺️

Hiya,

I did the international foundation year course at the ISC but not for law so I can't completely answer these questions but you can speak to some of the previous law ISC students on here.
From what I remember though, there were a few group projects but mainly in AES and rarely did they go towards your progression mark, it was mainly formative group work or just general group work during classes. I took English lit and yeah its a bit of Shakespear, Chaucer, etc but its very easy and not too difficult to pass/get a high mark in. There aren't any internships built into the program or during the program if that's what you're asking but I have heard of a few students applying or doing internships after completing the foundation year. Still, that doesn't mean you can't, you just have to ask once you get there (although I would recommend focusing on the IFY as law has the highest progression mark requirement) 🙂

Hope this helps!

Hiya,

AES stands for Academic English Skills, its a compulsory module/class for all IFY students at the ISC. The module focuses on developing students academic English skills such as reading, researching, writing academic essays, referencing, etc. 🙂

hey i did foundation law this yr
to answer ur questions:

-typical student tt: ~18hrs per week, online classes being 1hr (x2) and 2hrs f2f classes
-yes there's one group project but it's individually assessed (for engish lit), so dw if you have bad teammates
-do past papers / try different reading techniques. there's a mock exam on lnat but it's copied from the book in the library
-we did Shakespeare plays and sonnets for term 2 and novels for term 3, namely Wide Sargasso Sea and The Yellow Wallpaper etc. term 3 syllabus may change tho cuz they're thinking about it
-in sociology it's mainly data collection and i rmb it's sth about race and gender; quantitative and qualitative data...? u need to write a report on a certain social issue and the teacher gives 0 to no advice which is a bummer
-unfortunately we're broke af and we dont have internships. events maybe (we had a judge visit) but defo not internships

hope this helps

Hi they didn’t really provide us with specific stats but my law tutor mentioned that within his class of ~16 students in 2022/2023, only 2 didn’t progress

1 didn’t progress because they did not study so they flunked all their summative exams
And the second didn’t achieve the typical 17/18 lnat score for progression and went on to another university for their LLB instead

Hope this helps 🙃
