Additional funding after PGCE + PGCert?

Hi,

I am considering returning to university for postgraduate study, but I wanted to check where I would be financially.

I already have a PGCE, and I was studying for an MA part-time for three years; however, I dropped out after 1.5 years due to severe mental health issues, so I left early and received a PGCert. I have left teaching completely (which is also what my PGCert was in), so I would be looking into a different area for the new course.

I have no worries about being able to evidence the situation regarding my withdrawal from the course should I need to, but I just wanted to check if I would still be eligible for any additional funding now, given I was 1.5 years in and received the PGCert? I do not want to start the process of gathering evidence, etc, if there is no point.

If you would be able to clarify, that would be fantastic.
Thanks so much :smile:
Hi there. Can you confirm the full name of the new course and university? Will the new course be full time or part time? How many years will it be? When does the new course start? Thanks, Leah.

Hi,

I haven't 100% decided yet as I didn't want to look into it too much until I know where I stand funding-wise, but, it is likely to be a 2-year part-time Psychology conversion course and I'd be looking at next September.

Two I have been looking at are MSc Psychology (online, part time) or Psychology and Learning Disability MSc, both at the University of Portsmouth.

Thank you 🙂

Thanks. If you failed to complete a previous Masters course due to personal reasons, you may be able to receive another Postgraduate Loan (PGL), if you can provide evidence of this. The evidence depends on your personal circumstances.

For example, we can accept photocopies of the following;

-Letter from a GP on headed paper
-Letter from University on headed paper
-Letter from Social Services on headed paper
-Letter from clergy or professional person on headed paper
-Death Certificate and/or a Birth Certificate

The evidence must be;
- Signed and dated
-Confirms the reason why you could not continue with your studies and
- When this took place

You will also need to send this with a letter from yourself explaining what has happened, in your own words.

We cannot confirm if you would be eligible until it has been reviewed, you would need to send in a PGL application along with your evidence for us to review this. If you aren't sure of the course yet, you can pick your preferred course to put on the application and then change the application at a later date if needed. Thanks, Leah.
