Can I write my personal statement on media but still apply to film courses

I'm writing my personal statement for film and media degrees which are my top choices, but the other degrees I chose are film and TV production. Is it okay if I write the statement for media and talk a little bit about film?

Hi Cathodgson,

My name is Will, I'm a 3rd Year Media Production student at Bournemouth University

Great question! When I was applying for my degree I believe I applied for a mix of Media Production, Film and TV Degrees like you are currently. In my personal statement, I remember I talked about the media industry as a whole and how film, tv, events, etc. all mix into the industry and how they are all connected in one way or another.
So to answer your question, I would recommend being a bit more general about media and then include segments focusing on film, tv, etc. This also shows versatility to each individual university which may even help you out more!

If this helps, I've written a student blog on 'My advice for writing your personal statement' - https://microsites.bournemouth.ac.uk/student-blog/2022/10/21/my-advice-for-writing-your-personal-statement/

I hope all this helps

This is going to depend on the specific courses and universities. For some of the most competitive film degrees a media PS isn’t going to be ideal (you might find that media and TV degrees are more likely to accept a film PS than vice versa).
Ask your universities for advice

My top uni picks are all film and media courses while my safer choices are film and TV. In my PS I wrote about media in general and connected it with film since film is a huge segment of media. Would that be fine?
