Uk University First year

Hi,

I just wanted to ask if 1/9 (11.11%) a lot of weighting for first year marks towards your final degree.

If you get like a 2:2, can you still get a 1:1 or 2:1?

1/9 is almost nothing. You can easily undo the impact of 2:2 in first year and end up with a 2:2 or 1st overall.

Hi there,

Yes, you can still get a first

However, I do advise you to study hard in the first year as well, as it will help you to build the foundation you will need for the next 2 years which are much harder.

Take care,
Ilya

Hi there,

Yes, you can still get a first! If this is the grade you have received for this year, try not to worry as you can easily undo this and get a great grade in your final year.

If you want to improve your grades for next year, one of the best things you can do is take advantage of the services that your university offers. Most universities offer skills sessions and advice which you can use. At Hallam, this is through the library and any student can access these sessions which focus on a variety of things, from critical writing to referencing which can be really useful.

Also, if you have a personal tutor or academic advisor, make use of this too and set up meetings with them to ask any questions that you have as they are there to help you. Make sure you are asking your module tutors any questions you have too as they are there to help and this is how you can improve your grades.

I hope this helps,

Lucy - SHU student ambassador.

Hi there,

This isn't a huge amount and you can definitely up it in the next 2 years. However, it is helpful to achieve those grades consistently and manage the work over time, rather than hoping to up it over time.

All the best,
