Any requirements to study Law?

To any Law students,
I finished my GCSEs and plan to do A-levels in a sixth form however I’m picking between doing English literature, Biology and Business Studies or English literature,Biology and Psychology at another sixth form. The sixth forms I have as options to go do not do Law or anything like Criminology plus the sixth forms I know they do Law, my parents don’t want me to go to and are quite strict about it.
I want to be a lawyer in the future and study law in a good university however I’m unsure if there are certain requirements or A-Levels you need in order to study Law.(I have looked it up and I haven’t seen any but I’m still a bit unsure).
I would also really appreciate your opinion on studying Law and how you’re finding it.

Hey!

I think your best bet would be to go to a few different University websites and look at the entry requirements needed for the courses. Most will be similar but there might be a few key differences which will help you to decide which subjects to take.

If the Universities don't have specific subject requirements then I would personally choose the ones you like the most. If you enjoy the subject you'll do better in it when it comes to assessments.

As an example, here we ask for BBB-BBC in A-Levels and don't specify a subject. Our website does say that we're looking for people who have good reading and writing skills and who are curious about the world - so you're on the right track with English Literature. Biology is good too, as you'll be learning about the building blocks of life which covers the 'curious about the world' aspect!

What subject are you more interested in, if you forget about wanting to study Law - Psychology or Business?

I also wouldn't worry that your choices don't include Law at A-Level as Universities we know this isn't an option for everyone.

I hope this helps

Hi there! I’ve just finished my AS exams having done History (Cambridge), English Literature (Cambridge), Biology (Edexcel) and Math (Edexcel) and on to doing my A2s next year. I’m also going to apply for law. Based off of my research, as long as you do one essay subject, which would be Lit in your case, then you are perfectly alright to be applying for law. A science subject such as Biology is also greatly respected. However, a handful of universities don’t particularly like Business because it considered an ‘easier’ A-Level, so I wouldn’t recommend it. I know some universities don’t even count Business as an A-Level which is sort of mind-blowing. Hope this helps!

Hi, I’m i just finished first year of law. For alevels I did English Literature, Sociology and Religious Studies. So 3 essay based alevels. English Lit is always a good choice when applying to Law, it is very difficult and time consuming tho so bare that in mind. I have also heard Biology and Psychology are very difficult so since Law has no subject requirements just preferred subjects which English Lit and Biology are already, you might want to pick Business for a more lenient alevel. You don’t need to do criminology it’s not a respected subject and unis don’t necessarily look for students that did law alevel.

There are no required subjects for Law - you could be doing 3 science subjects, it would be fine.
An essay subject like History, Politics etc is useful for skills/LNAT but is not essential.
Pick 3 subjects that you will enjoy studying, and where you feel confident of high grades.
(And no, you do not need A level Law or that daft welsh diploma in Criminology to do a Law degree).
