Cambridge LLM

I have recently graduated from a non-Russell group university with a 2:1 in Law. I will be taking the SQE exams in January 2025 (self-studying), and working hopefully in the legal sector.

I want some advice on getting into Cambridge to study the LLM. I want complete honesty or should I just face reality?

I would say that you should contact the postgrad admissions office (or the postgrad law email address) and ask if a 2.1 means you will definitely be rejected OR whether rejection is likely, in which case, the 2.1 could be offset by other factors during holistic assessment.

if you can't get in because of your 2.1, while i understand that it would be disappointing, it is worth stressing that there are a lot of very good law schools with extremely good professors in the UK and beyond. depending on your legal interests, you will be able to find several other schools with excellent staff who would suit your interests. and doing well at one of these other schools during a masters could be enough to make you a competitive applicant for a doctorate at cambridge, or even a second LLM at cambridge (some people do second LLMs the second one being at very prestigious law schools). if you wanted to do a doctorate you might look into doing a research-based law masters.
