Economics or Physics A-level?

Please help me!!! I’m stuck between physics and economics a level and I don’t know which to choose. Currently I have applied with biology, chemistry and maths and have received my offers however I no longer wish to take biology and want to swap in for econ or physics as I said. I do well in physics but only since I’ve been revising I find some of the content very boring and I am aware it is one of the hardest A-levels out there. However with econ I am aware that the people are usually less nerdy- coming from a nerd(sorry physicists!) but I don’t really know much about the subject since I haven’t taken it at GCSE my predicted grades should be more than enough to get into my chosen college but I was wondering if anyone had any more personal advice or questions that I could ask myself. I know about researching them and looking at the specifications and I will go into that more but I’m completely torn between the two as my sister said economics was so boring that she dropped it and only took AS and my two friends in my year say that it’s good and interesting.

Any help will be much appreciated thanks!

Physics fits better with the science ‘trio’ I suppose (so you may start to appreciate more synoptic scientific links) but this is definitely a choice for you. Personally I found Physics A level fun (but watch out for exam boards as AQA has made theirs hard the last few years). Economics is a lot of essay writing.

This is a choice for you to make and everyone’s experiences are subjective. Best off speaking to teachers who know you/your situation.

Why are you taking 4 A levels?

OP is NOT taking 4 a levels. They are taking Chemistry Maths and either Econ or Physics

Some questions to ask yourself:

1.

What are your career goals? If you’ve got a specific job or uni course in mind maybe look into uni entry requirements or which subject will give you the skills you need for the job you would like to do

2.

Which subject are you more interested in? As you haven’t studied econ before maybe look over some revision videos for it on YouTube to see if it captures your interest. For both subjects its recommend that you look at videos made by people who have finished the course and view a review to get a better idea of what its like.

3.

Which subject aligns better with what youre good at? you’ve already done GCSE physics and you do well which is positive. You obviously haven’t done econ before but it has some similar elements to business, geography, history and politics (as far as the internet tells me!). Think about how you did in any of those at GCSE.

Hope this helps a bit, good luck with your decision

See if you can start out with 4 alevels. If the work is too much (shouldn’t be) then drop the one you don’t like. Bear in mind that econ is much more writing than your other three. This might be positive or negative for you.

I recommend that too. It’s easy to do and if it’s really to much my college let you drop after 2 weeks.
