Is A-Level Biology hard?

Hi there,
I’m thinking of doing A-Level Biology since I found it quite interesting to learn at GCSE level (though I struggled with Ecology) and when it came to my GCSE Biology paper 1 and 2 I felt like they weren’t as hard as the other science papers. (I did combined science and I’m predicted 88).

That is why I initially picked Biology as an A-Level but as I did more research I heard a lot of people say that A-level Biology is really hard and could be even harder than Physics and Chemistry because of the amount of content and I’m quite scared that I’ll struggle since my cousin picked A-Levels that are content loaded and she struggled a lot and told me I would to with A-Level Biology.

I just wonder if it is really worth it if I want to study Law in University or if it will be a waste.

I’m assuming you’re in year 11 right? So I just did AQA and sat my exams this year.

Three things about A-Level Bio (AQA)
- Content heavy!
- Very hard and awkward exam layout
- Very specific markscheme

I have heard about all that many times but what do you mean by ‘Awkward Exam Layout’?

I would say the content is heavy yes BUT so is every other A-Level. all a level subjects have huge amount of content. The main problem is just exam technique. I wouldn’t worry if I was you cause as long as you nail the content. The only thing preventing you from getting the A-A* is just exam technique. Solution is past papers and understanding your mistakes. Any more problems or questions lmk my tiktokk for study help is @inteuu3. Also good luck for your gcse results i know you’ll do well ❤️

Sooo basically layout in terms of the questions. They’ll word questions ( in the context of AQA ) in the most dumbest way possible. Solution is to always and it’ll always work but find out what topic the question is related.

Yeah I’m in year 11 and I finished all my GCSEs. I heard a lot of people talk about the heavy content and very specific mark schemes, I’m going to do AQA Biology as well.

That’s fine. All I’d say is definitely be prepared and use year 12 to the best of your ability. Make sure your Year 1 content is strong. It’ll help for year 13.

Most people seem to find GCSE biology easier than the others, so don’t rely on this too much in making your decision.
