What should I put on my personal statement?

I am an a level year 12 student doing chem bio and sociology
I am unsure what to put on my personal statement other than work experience I’ve done so far .

I want to do pharmacy.
Are there any lectures, Taster days or things in general I should know of to put on my statement?
Also how should I write it and structure the statement ?
Thanksss

Hi @asma421

Here are some suggestions about what to include in your personal statement based on my experience and what lecturers had advised for me to include:

What made you interested in the course you are applying for and why you are eager to study it further

Any further reading you have done around the topic of the course you are applying for (in this case any further reading about pharmacy or relevant non-fiction books)

What you hope to achieve by completing the course or any future aspects post graduation

Any extracurricular work you have done

Mention about hobbies or things that interest you

Skills you have gained during your a-levels that will be useful in completing your degree

Make sure to include separate paragraphs in your structure instead of one large piece of text to make it easier for people to read quickly.

All in all universities are looking for people who are eager to learn and will contribute well to the course but also people who will join societies and engage in university life. I hope some of the points above will be useful to you and best of luck with the application process!!

Hello, Coventry University Student Ambassador here!

UCAS has a really great guide on how to write and structure your personal statement, as well as what to include in it. I used this guide to write my personal statement, and got very strong positive feedback about it!
Some of the questions that UCAS suggest to ask yourself while writing it are:

1.

Why have you chosen this course?

2.

What excites you about the subject?

3.

Is my previous or current study relevant to the course?

4.

Have you got any work experience that might help you?

5.

What life experiences have you had that you could talk about?

6.

What achievements are you proud of?

7.

What skills do you have that make you perfect for the course?

8.

What plans and ambitions do you have for your future career?

Here's the link to their guide for further information: https://www.ucas.com/undergraduate/applying-university/writing-personal-statement/how-write-personal-statement

Hope this helps!

Hi, what I would say is ask the university you want to go to what they look for in a good personal statement. The university I have a conditional offer for actually visited our college and looked at our personal statements and made suggestions on what we could do to improve them to make them stand out (I got offers on all of my choices). Good luck with your application.
