level 4 or level 6 apprenticeship

So I'm a school-leaver that's just completed A-Levels and I have two offers; one is a Level 4 apprenticeship in data analytics within the civil service which has a salary of around 30k and a Level 6 degree apprenticeship in data science at a consulting company with a salary of 25k. The civil service role really appeals to me but the only thing that is holding me back is the fact that I won't get a Bachelor's degree at the end of it. Is this way of thinking outdated especially considering that degrees aren't necessary for careers in technology? Or is the degree still of some worth?

A bachelors degree is going to make you more employable in the long term. Additionally, if the employer offering the level 4 decides against a top up to level 6, it’s going to be extremely difficult to find another employer who will take you on just for that top up to a bachelors degree.

Hi, bit off topic but how long did you wait to hear back from the employers that you got the apprenticeship congrats also!

Don’t only look at the degree, look at the workplace culture, benefits such as discounts. hybrid working etc. I would go with the bachelors degree one as you’ll not only have experience but that degree to back it up and it will be for free. But go for whatever you thinks right don’t let anyone tell you otherwise

I’m just about to finish a level 4 course and will be starting level 6 in September. I wasnt told when I started it was a possibility but honestly with the apprenticeship levy it won’t cost them anymore to let you progress onto the next course afterwards. So I’d recommend doing the one you’re most interested in and communicating throughout that you’re interested in continuing education and getting a degree - I really doubt they’d say no!!

Hi - congrats on your offers. Just wondering if you went with the civil service apprenticeship in the end, I am thinking of applying for the same course soon and had some questions about it!

Thank you all for the advice! I ultimately went for the Level 4 as it was more convenient for me and I wasn't ready to commit to a full degree
