Is EPQ actually useful?

Hi. I have signed up for EPQ but I wanna drop it now as I think is too time-consuming. As far as I know, all the unis for the courses I'm applying to won't lower the entry grade if you do an EPQ. And someone said that EPQ is only something that could make your personal statement looks good and is something that could talk about in interviews. However, my school is currently offering us a project that is similar to EPQ, with the same skills that will be developed in EPQ and also is much less time-consuming. I am thinking to do that instead of EPQ. Will I still be considered equally in the same position as those that do EPQ? Thanks

EPQ can be time consuming depending on the other subjects that you take since some subjects require more dedication then others like art, especially if you want a good grade in a subject. If the subjects that you want to take is time consuming then i would consider the other qualification you mentioned, but the one down side i can think of is that a lot of universities might not recognise it as a qualification (it would then be useless/ not helpful and a waste of time), compared to an EPQ, which many do recognise. There are many ups and downs, but i think that if you are really passionate, have subjects that require not a lot of dedication then an EPQ would be good for universities and for life. But if your not passionate, the subjects require a lot of dedication, but it still seems kinda fun to take or you think it would be still good for you if you took it, then the other qualification you mentioned.
I did it, because my school made me, it was time consuming but I got it done. I'm in 2nd year now and most of the Universities I want to go to don't care about it. I know some of my classmates that were doing Bio, Physics and Maths dropped it because it was too much. I do History and H/S L3 so I took it on as I don't have a 3rd A-Level but again if you're taking major A-levels like the big 3 I just mentioned or similar (like Maths n science them) and your Unis don't care about it, I would drop it, there's no point unless your Uni cares about it or you're going to Oxford or something.

Just get the grades or even higher and do extra curriculars. If you're going to drop it make sure you do it in your 1st year because 2nd year you most definitely will drop it.

That’s still good. I was talking to a University of bath Rep and they were saying EPQ helps you gain skills and time management and things like that, so maybe it’ll be beneficial in the long run
