YINI Scheme Success Rate

Has anyone applied to YINI and not gotten a placement?

I've applied to four schemes now, and it's been two months since my first with no response. I have good grades in all subjects and I'm sure I convey enthusiasm for my subject (engineering) with my CV, but I've heard nothing. I'm not very sure how many people apply for YINI nor can I find information about how likely it is to get a placement. Has anyone got any idea of this?

Hello, Coventry University Student Ambassador here!

I have several friends who secured multiple placements through YINI. A common mistake among students is failing to tailor their CVs and cover letters, so be sure to personalize these documents. Entering the workforce can be daunting, and you may not realize that you need to apply for numerous placements to increase your chances of success. Most people find their placement after submitting over 40 applications. While this may seem overwhelming, persistence is key. Remember, large companies often use automated software to screen CVs, so incorporating relevant keywords and tailoring your application is essential.

Hope this helps you understand the process a little better!

Hi Bianca, thank you for your reply.

First I should clarify that I am looking for pre-university gap year schemes, which does narrow things.

Secondly I must ask, has YINI changed? In the vacancies page there are only four schemes that are relevant. Unless I'm mistaken, EDT ask you for your CV which you can update, but if you're applying for multiple schemes at once you can't send individual CVs out. There's no cover letters either at the initial stage. The only customisation is a 'in 300-500 words why do you want to do a placement' in the application form, which I do tailor.
