Bristol medicine and GCSE grades

Hi, I've been looking at Bristol university to do medicine. In my predictions I've got AAA, but a lot of people are saying that Bristol look at GCSE grades aswell. I mean I did fine in GCSE but I didn't get the best grades and I know a lot of people got all grade 8's and 9's or at least 4 9's or more. These are my GCSE results:

Biology-9
Chemistry-9
Maths-8
Physics-8
English language-7
English lit-7
French-8
Geography-7
PE-7
Computer science-7

I mean I got 7's, 8's and 9's but I only got 2 grade 9's. And a lot of people are saying that universities are looking at the number of grade 9's you get aswell. I don't know if that's entirely true and I'm a bit confused about this aswell. Can someone help me out please?

What does it say on their website?

Bristol is unusual in that they do not 'weight' the separate components of your application for Med.
If you meet the minimum A level requirements, plus GCSE Math and English, then you will be ranked only on your UKCAT score to determine if you get an interview.
"As we do not weight A-levels or GCSEs (or equivalent qualifications), applicants who are predicted to, or have already achieved our minimum academic entry requirements will then have their application scored with a 100% weighting on the UCAT result, which will be used to select candidates for interview."

@GANFYD Has given the best answer as usual. For any uni check the website as a basic first step!

Bristol does in fact have one of the lowest GCSE requirements for medicine. It also has one of the highest UCAT requirements so and as McGinger has said, Bristol really place emphasis on it.

more generally, your friends are correct. Many med schools use GCSEs as a key factor in sifting for interview. The minimum requirements and how they sift will be set out on their websites.

However, there is quite a bit of nuance to this as the requirements needed to get an interview may be higher than the minimum GCSEs posted. It all depends on how they sift for interview.

When you have done your UCAT, have a look at the “which med school ?”Uberthread at the top of the forum and somebody will be along to help.

If you are eligible for UCAT bursary make sure you apply.

Good luck.

Did you check their website? 'Friends' rarely know the answer so it is good practice to actually do the checking yourself.

So you need the highest UCAT possible?
Cus I was aiming for 3000. Will this mean I most likely won’t get an interview as most people will have a higher UCAT
