My Clearing Journey at Herts 🎓️

Hello everyone! 👋 I’m Amena, an accounting graduate and now Graduate Staff Communications Executive at the University of Hertfordshire. With results day approaching, you may feel the nerves that the big day carries, so I wanted to share my positive experience with the Clearing process and dispel any worries that you might have.

After receiving my A level results, I slightly missed the required grades for my first-choice university and opted not to go for my insurance choice either. So, I decided to explore Clearing to find the best possible course and university for my academic and career goals. It allowed me to remain flexible and open to new possibilities, ensuring I made an informed decision about my education. Clearing also helped me navigate through the changes to my original plan, guaranteeing that I secured a place on a course where I could achieve my full potential.

A family member suggested that I consider Herts due to its convenient location from where I live and its strong reputation for quality education, ranking highly in various university league tables. After researching all the options available on their website, I decided to choose accounting because of my confidence in maths and strong interest in working with numbers. Herts has an excellent reputation for its business school, which is accredited by reputable professional bodies such as ACCA and CIMA. I was confident in my choice once I spoke with the clearing team, whose kind and supportive nature reduced the stress and anxiety that this situation can often bring. I remember speaking to a Herts staff member over the phone who helped me with my decision, guiding me through the process and explaining what I needed to do in order to progress to the next stage. After a very short and comforting conversation, I was left relieved and excited when I was guaranteed a place on my chosen course.

The next three years went on to exceed my expectations with its fantastic facilities, resources, support services and vibrant campus life. I also credit my course for teaching me transferrable skills such as organisation, communication and working well under pressure, all of which are vital to my role now. A massive factor in my enjoyment of studying at Herts was the immensely supportive staff. Going into uni, I was concerned that the student – teacher relationship would be distant, leaving me to my own devices; but this wasn’t the case at Herts! While the responsibility to perform was on me as expected, I found my tutors and lecturers to be super approachable, sincere and helpful.

Feeling worried about Clearing is completely normal, but remember, it's also an opportunity! Many students successfully find their ideal courses through this process, including myself. Stay positive and proactive, explore your options, and seek support from clearing operators, friends and family. This could be the beginning of an exciting new chapter in your academic journey, leading you to unexpected and rewarding opportunities.
