I left college last June, however after I left my dad kept claiming child benefits in my name despite me being out of education. He put in another UC claim this January and declared I was still in education when I was not to keep falsely claiming the child benefits in my name. My parents are married so it was a joint claim.
I applied for Universal credit myself, and my dad found out and made me cancel my claim and tell them I was still in education on the reason why I wanted my claim closed.
I ended up doing it in a moment of confusion and my claim has now been closed with that reason.
Since I initially applied for universal credit and put in I was not in education, which contradicted what my dad has been claiming to keep getting the benefits in my name. Then I redacted my claim with the reason that I am in education. Will that make me complicit in what my dad has been doing if the DWP catch this and look into it?
I’m really stressed out right now and don’t want to be charged or convicted for something my dad did.
My dad has no intention in reporting the fact that he has been falsely claiming benefits in my name and isn’t going to bother with doing anything about it unless the DWP find out and investigate.
I’m scared that the DWP are gonna find out and link me to what my dad has done and charge me with some sort of offence in letting him get away with it. I’m scared it’s going to ruin what I want to pursue in the future!
I might sound irrational but I wanted to pursued an apprenticeship and I’m just scared what my dad did will obstruct my future plans.
