Working and Studying

I currently work in a retail job and as a content creator for BCU, all while fitting in my studies. Trying to balance a job and your studies can feel overwhelming, but if you plan your time well and find a job with hours that work for you, it is achievable.

If you can, try to find a job that is flexible around your uni schedule. For example, I work as a content creator for BCU and can pick up or turn down work depending on how busy I am each week. And the work I do complete usually takes no more than 3 hours, so I can easily fit it into my day.

I also have a job in retail where I have a 5 hour weekly contract. I can easily pick up more hours if I’m available. But if I’m having a busy week, all I need to do is complete my 5 hours as a minimum.

Its really important that you try not to sacrifice your uni work and study time for your job. But, I know it can be hard if you’re trying to earn to support your living costs too. I would suggest starting out with fewer hours or shifts if you can, and then when you can gauge your uni schedule you can always increase your hours.

Also, searching for a job can be difficult I’ve been there myself. My best advice is to keep sending in applications to different places to increase your pool of applications.

Try to apply for companies that have other locations across the country, as you’re more likely to be able to transfer branches when you move home over the summer.

And don’t forget to check out what student jobs your university offers, as they might have something that works well for you.
