HELP KCL or Lboro

I want to study psychology but I don't know which is better - Kings College London or Loughborough.

I know london is expensive but I'm fortunate enough for that not to be a deal braker. I just want to go to a uni that will give me the best opportunities in becoming a clinical psychologist whilst also living in an environment which isn't a drab.

loughborough may be a pretty boring town but it has some of the best student satisfaction of all the universities. having a nice environment is a big pro and i loved living in london, but it's just factor in many, and loughborough can compete on other aspects (i'm sure)

as for opportunities, which university ranks high for your subject? how do you like the course content? what careers services do they each offer?

They're both accredited by the BPS so graduate prospects should be similar.

KCL should perhaps provide you with more networking opportunities and being in London, more opportunities for work experience (which will be advantageous later down the line) but KCL is picking up a fame of disgruntling students with their poor administration and has, in fact, one of the lowest student satisfaction scores of the country. Something to consider.

Hi @clowneliastreet ,

Great to hear you are considering Loughborough 🙂

I study Psychology here so can give you some insight!

Loughborough is a top 10 University and is currently ranked 7th (Complete University Guide 2024).

The rankings for Psychology at Loughborough are high. The course is BPS accredited. I personally really enjoy the course here as you have the opportunity to learn many aspects of Psychology through many different modules. If you haven't already I would recommend taking a look at 'What you'll Study' on the course page to see the range of modules you will study. You can also choose some optional modules, so you can tailor the course to be what you want. I found it really useful to compare these modules with other Universities I was considering to see which course would suit me best as there do tend to be differences (particularly in the optional modules you are offered).

If you are considering doing a placement/year abroad Loughborough is great as they offer so much support in searching and securing a placement/year abroad. They also have strong industry links within the UK and internationally. I found this support particularly helpful when I was looking and interviewing for placements- this support definitely helped me secure my placement year. You can also use the Careers network at any point during your studies which may be particularly useful if you are considering further study.

I have really enjoyed my time at Loughborough and have had so many opportunities.

If you have any other questions please do ask- I am happy to help 🙂

Alex
