The University of Manchester - MSc in Biotech and Enterprise

Hello everyone, I am trying to apply for MSc Biotechnology and Enterprise at Manchester Uni. The program description on the website states that the personal statement should be under 300 words (https://www.manchester.ac.uk/study/masters/courses/list/07778/msc-biotechnology-and-enterprise/application-and-selection/#course-profile). However, the online general application portal specifies a range of 300-500 words.

My current personal statement is 296 words, and unfortunately, the application portal prevents submission for statements below 300 words. I have attempted to contact the admissions team via email to clarify this discrepancy, but have not yet received a response.

Does anyone has applied to this course? Or can someone advise me on this

I saw the quote on the webpage: "Personal statements over 300 words will not be read past the word limit which may impact your application outcome." These types of discrepancies are quite annoying when you come across them. You could email the department secretary about this issue just so they are aware of this for future applications and can offer guidance to applicants. In the meantime, you could end your 296 word personal statement with a "Thank you very much for reviewing my application. Sincerely, Your name" This way you will meet the application system requirement and if the rest of the sentence gets cut off, which might possibly just be the result of one page = 300words and they don't want to read/print more than one page, then it will not matter and will not affect your application. Good luck.

Yea, I have tried to email then they directed me to the IT department. The IT said they cannot do anything about it cause its the general application personal statement requirement. And this confused me a lot hahaha.

But thank you so much for your advice, that made so much sense. I think i’ll just add smth like “thank you for your consideration” or etc at the end.
