Pls tell me your thoughts on Cambridge colleges

I attended Cambridge open day yesterday but due to being ill I had to leave early so didn’t really get a chance to look around the colleges, I did look at fitzwilliam and Jesus but didn’t really see myself there.

I’m hoping other people who did get a chance to see more colleges could tell me a little more about them please, let me know your thoughts.

Some criteria I’m looking for in my ‘ideal’ college
- good kitchen, with proper hobs, oven preferred, and seats in it (as a fussy eater I’d cook for myself quite a bit)
- en suite in accommodation
- can walk on most grass, and has green area I can study outside in the summer
- not super touristy
- not super posh
- friendly
- not ugly (sorry medwards and churchill :frown:( )
Honestly though I’d like to hear your thoughts on any college.

In terms of size I quite liked the size of fitz, medwards feels to small and Jesus too big.

Consider Homerton, Trinity Hall, Selwyn.

You won't get the kitchen in almost anywhere in the first year, and not many in second and third - not reliably anyway, you'll be at the mercy of the ballot.
Of the rest, Fitz, Robinson, Selwyn, Lucy Cav all fit reasonably. if you don't want tourists, you need to get out of town, so you could add Homerton and Girton to that list, don't know about their en-suites though - think Homerton % is quite high.

Medwards fits all that! Kitchens with ovens, tables, freezers. Walk on the grass, relaxed, friendly… Check out the website.

You get big kitchens at Medwards - ovens, dining tables, freezers. Can also walk on the grass, and the vibe is friendly and modern.

I think I might have just replied to you in the applicant thread but I don't remember reading the criteria so maybe it wasn't but Downing meets all those requirements. 80% of the rooms in first year apparently are en-su and Downing has kitchens with hobs and some have tables so you can oscillate between catered and self-catered which is so handy. The grass had deck chairs and football nets in one section so it's clear they're not going to murder you for stepping on it lol. Everyone was very friendly as well and it seemed like a great community

I do like medwards and have been there quite a few times for outreach events, my only issues with it would be the architecture I’m really not a fan haha and also it felt very small - I’m used to going to bigger schools haha
