SF when swapping online part-time degrees and University

I know similar questions come up a lot but I am currently studying a degree part-time online so we don't stick to the standard three year degree time frame. I have completed stage one/level 4 of my current degree earning 120 credits and have already started my first unit in the second stage/level 5 so SF funds have been used to pay for this unit. If I wanted to swap to a different university with a part-time online degree (same subject) can I still get full student finance funding? I would like to start that course in the second year if possible but if not and I have to restart from the beginning would that make any difference to my ability to get funding? What would the situation be if I changed to a full time online option instead?

Hi there,

What university are you currently studying at? What funding you currently have as well, is it just the Tuition Fees?

What's the name of the course and new uni you plan to switch to?

Thanks,
Ross

Just tuition fees. I am currently studying at the Open College of the Arts (accredited by the Open University) and would be interested in transfering to Falmouth for their Visual Communications online course either at the part time or full time pace. The part time course is the one that I would try to enter the second year of if possible. I’ve been told that may be possible but they would have to look into it further during my application.

Hi there,

If it's a part time course you're transferring to then you'd be funded for this and your previous study would not be calculated. Is it just the one year of previous study at part time that you have? Thanks, Jason

I’ve taken more than one year in real time to complete it due to the pace of my current course but I have completed all of level 4 which would traditionally be the first year if going at a full time rate. I am currently working through my first 40 credit unit of stage two/level 5 but have not completed any units at this stage.

Thanks for confirming.

You'd still get support for changing over.

Just to double check does that still apply if I have to start the part-time degree option from the beginning?

Yes. You would still get the funding.

Thanks,
