dropping 4th A level subject

I took bio chem maths and psych in AS level. And I want to drop psych in A2. I got all As AS level. Will it be a disadvantage to drop a subject when applying*to*unis*??

Absolutely not. Most universities only look at 3 A Levels therefore it will not disadvantage you at all.

so...will you be taking the AS exam for psych or are you just dropping it
my school does a thing like that, where you take four subjects for AS, sit an exam in one at the end of year 12 and then drop it for A2
the advantage is that you get to study something you enjoy that you might not necessarily have wanted to take as an A-level - for intellectual curiousity its defo a win
the disadvantage is that if you do badly in your AS you still have to declare it in your application, and obvs seeing no grade is better than seeing a bad one
It won’t make any difference to your uni applications.

Hi @lineysha,

Dropping a fourth subject does not disadvantage you whatsoever. You're really only required to have three A-Levels, and most of the time universities only look at three anyways. As long as you meet the minimum grade attainment for the three subjects you're all good!

Perhaps you could consider using the extra time you have from dropping a subject to delve into an extra curricular to write about in your personal statement?

All the best!

You will be fine by dropping that. You will still have your 3 a-levels. And an extra AS grade to boost your application (as well as whatever other stuff/extra curriculars etc you have on there).
Better to drop it now and still get 3 good a-levels and a good AS level than having 4 not as good a-levels.

oh sorry i missed that for some reason. i'd say drop psych then, they only give you an offer for three a-levels so i wouldn't disadvantage yourself by taking four and increasing your workload
