Better exam grades on results day

Say you’re holding an offer for AAB, but you get like A*AA on a level results and you want to reapply to different uni with achieved grades, can you just decline your place and apply in the next cycle?

This is a hypothetical question, I’m not in this position I’m at the end of year 12, but my school has given super harsh and boarder line pessimistic predictions lol.

This is one purpose of clearing, you can try to get into universities with higher requirements. Unfortunately, there are often not so many of these places available on clearing.
It can be a bit of a risk, but if your alternative is waiting a year then this would definitely be better.

Yes you can do that.

Hi @Nat4695,

If hypothetically you managed to meet and exceed the conditions of your offer(s), and you're considering to explore the possibility of picking an alternative course or university requiring higher grades, you can simply do this through the UCAS Clearing service.

However, as mentioned above the clearing stage holds availability for limited courses and universities - therefore, going down this route would be risky and does not guarantee you will enrol in your most preferred course and uni.

Hope this helps,

Just remember a) higher grade requirements does not mean 'better' course, however you think you can measure that, and b) think about why you want to go to your Firm Uni, and if/why has that changed, c) if you apply in Clearing you will be at the back of the queue for accommodation - and at a competitive A/A* Uni that may mean no accommodation at all - be careful what you wish for.
