If you drop out and then restart at another uni, you won't be fully funded for your next course as you will have had two years of previous study. This means that you wouldn't receive a tuition fee loan for the first year of a new course. However, if you keep records/evidence of your mental health problems, you could potentially apply for funding for the first year by submitting Compelling Personal Reasons evidence (for dropping out of your course) to student finance. Speak to your uni and ask if you can suspend your studies for a year. This will give you time to get support for your mental health issues and decide what is the best course of action for you.

It's normal. A lot of students take gaps years or change courses after a year, and many mature students go to uni. If you are set on changing unis, email the admissions departments and ask if year two entry would be possible rather than restarting from year one.
