this has taken me a bit to get around to but this is officially the start of my work blog!!!!
a lil quick intro: hi if you've not followed my blogs before, i'm magda and i've just done my alevels (chem, physics and maths) and going into civil engineering at uni in sept of this year!!! this is just gonna be me talking about work + my experience since i'm spending my alevel summer gaining some experience as well as relaxing and what way to do that than going to work with some consultant engineers
lil backstory to this job: i've thankfully been working at this workplace during my free weeks solidly for about 3 years so i kinda know my ropes around tho a fair bit has changed (covid and all). it all started in year 8 i think when i went to my mum's work for this 'take ur daughter to work' thing my school did and been gaining experience since then, yr10 work experience and so on
oki dokii let's get this started this week was a nice chill week which i am thankful for i really love going to my work cause the ppl are genuinely super nice haha plus i get free coffee which is a godsend.
most the stuff i've been doing are mechanical drawings which i don't mind much althogh sometimes it makes my brain explode haha, i think i messed up one of the tasks to the point i had to redo it like twice 😭 but still i gained a lot of info since it wasn't similar to anything i'd done before and i LOVE trying new things even if i mess up every so often
still have no clue what we're starting tmrw but as long as it's not elec stuff i'll be good, i'm not particularly a fan of that stuff as i find it annoying and a bit rough but we move it is what it is and i love getting experience and i still have to do it at uni so having the extra knowledge will be useful haha
i will 100% say i have a bias to structural engineering as it's the more interesting stuff in my opinion so hopefully i get to do more of that 🙏 (i will most likely change my uni course if i get into edi for their structural eng and architecture since you still do civil stuff there too haha so best of both worlds)
anyways i don't have much to say rn that i can think of so if you guys have any questions or want to know anything else about my engineering work/aspirations etc etc feel free to drop a comment below
ok soo i might've forgotten about this 🫣 but i'm done with work for this bit (i was on holiday last week too haha) but okk we're gonna do a lil summary of what i did and just an update.
I worked the whole of july (woohooo) and it was pretty fun, I think reflecting on everything it was pretty tough and lots of questions/dumb mistakes were done but it's all part of learning
generally i did a lot of mixed stuff which is nice cause i got to kinda enrich my whole knowledge (yet the structural bias still stands haha) and generally we had some good times too so no complaints here but it;s nice cause i think ppl expect it gets boring after a while constantly coming to the same place for experience but i do a bit more in depth stuff every year and definately been helpful thinking about what i do in the university context and piecing lil bits together is pretty neat. Honestly i can't say much cause its a lot of doing draawings and analysing/checking through bits which even i get lost on, pretty much a learn as you do it kinda thing so hard to explain, but its neat seeing the progress of building plans and seeing how things connect together in real life
anyways thats all i can think of, we'll see if i get to updating when i go back post results day
