CUSO Violinists
I was wondering what grade are the violinists in CUSO?
- What grade are they typically?
- What grade are the first violinists?
I am thinking of applying to Cambridge. I started violin pretty late, but I am really getting into it, and improving very fast.
I was just wondering whether most violinists there had at least one Dip done, or whether they were all roughly grade 8 standard.

Email one of the Committee members listed on the CUSO website and ask them.
I didn't study/play violin at Cambridge (I was at The Other Place, aka Oxford) but I did play violin in one of the uni-wide auditioning orchestras, the OU Phil. I was back of the second violins and I was Grade 8 Distinction standard (violin was not my first study instrument). I never did an audition (my friend was leader and bullied the conductor into letting me in coz they were somehow short of second violins 
) but if I had, I doubt I would have got in. The calibre is extremely high for orchestral playing standards at Oxford and Cambridge

It's worth trying, as you never know. Or you might be able to sneak in via other means, like I did!
Some of the college orchestras will be of high calibre too (you can play for colleges that are not your own)
