Self studying a level?

Hi, thinking of taking a gap year before uni to study another a level since as I haven't reached the entry requirements in my other a levels.

So how would I go about studying an a level at home? thinking smth like biology or environmental science a level.

Can I just get a textbook and watch yt videos on it then book the exams in the summer? Or should I pay like £500 for those online a level courses?

If anyone has gone down any of these paths, any advice would be appreciated!
I taught myself an A-level and personally; without the course and someone holding me to it, I would have given up halfway through. I think it depends on your learning style. Could you look at an access course or foundation year instead? - LG

You could self-study and book the tests in the summer, however with science a levels, there is a practical element you must pass and you will need to investigate in how you can get around that as you are studying at home.
